More Details on Ramadan @ Yale!
It's almost time!
If this is your first time to Yale, WELCOME TO THE YALE MSA! We are thrilled to have newcomers, and we hope you are equally as excited ;) Please peruse this Yale MSA website and check out all the stuff we do! If you aren't on the Yale MSA mailing lists, please email zenah.hasan@yale.edu to be added. Get pumped!
As you start to get into school planning mode again, we wanted to let you guys (incoming and returning members) know about some important Ramadan information for the upcoming year, as we do every year. This year is even more exceptional, though, because Ramadan will take up the first few weeks of school!
We will hold daily Ramadan iftars with halal meat in Battell Chapel on Old Campus every day starting August 28th. Before this date, you are welcome to come to the Bingham Basement, Room 013, for small iftars during pre-orientation week August 22-27th. Note that on August 25th, if you are on campus, there will be a special iftar in the Vanderbilt Courtyard for anyone interested, sponsored by the Orientation for International Students (OIS) pre-orientation program.
In addition to this, nightly Taraweeh prayers will be offered in the Musuallah after iftars, and suhoor packets will be available daily outside Omer Bajwa’s office in the Chaplain’s Office in the Bingham Basement, and after move-in day (August 28th), at the Battell Chapel iftars. All of this will be free of charge!
And of course, the grand annual Ramadan Banquet will be held in Commons Dining Hall on September 16th—you won’t want to miss it! There will also be a few special MSA events for incoming freshmen, so mark the dates: On August 28th -- our first formal iftar -- the Chaplain’s Office will be sponsoring the "Move-In Day/Meet and Greet" Iftar for freshmen and their families. You are also invited to an MSA S’mores and Bluebooking Night in late August (date TBA) to chill before classes begin and to prove you with another chance to get to know all of us in the MSA!
Further, we have a slate of great events for you guys once we get into the full swing of things (after September 1st), but we wanted to get this information out to you as quickly as possible first. So, stay tuned for more info.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, etc. please feel free to contact tariq.mahmoud@yale.edu and/or omer.bajwa@yale.edu. We'll be more than happy to help you guys out :)
With Love,
Yale MSA
