Great News: Halal Meat in Dining Halls!
Salaam! This is big news, and appropriately the first proper entry on this page! Beginning this week, the residential college dining hall have begun to offer halal hot dogs and hamburgers! This is very happy news for many of us on campus, and represents years of hard work and dedication on the part of many Yale Muslims! We sincerely thank the University administration for all its help and cooperation: this is a significant step in Yale's efforts to better accomodate its students' religious beliefs and practice on campus.

Following is the official announcement from the Council of Masters:
We are delighted to let you know that as of today Monday, September 26, Yale University Dining Hall Services has made arrangements for Halal meats to be available to Muslim students wishing to follow the dietary restrictions of their faith. Each weekday at lunch and dinner, Halal hot dogs and hamburgers will be available and made to order upon request in all of the college dining halls. In addition, a weekly communal dinner, consisting of a Halal meat entree, will be provided one night per week. The day and location of the communal dinner will be announced later. These arrangements will allow Muslim students to get a Halal meat entree in their own (or any) college dining hall during the week and also will provide a weekly opportunity for Muslim students to eat together in the larger community of Muslim students.
