Sponsor an Orphan Initiative 2007

This year, the MSA decided to work on a new project: working to sponsor an orphan in Sudan for a year through Islamic Relief. This was a new initiative the MSA decided to pursue this year because of the grave genocide occurring in Darfur, as well due to the general importance for Muslims to constantly practice charity and give back.

Our hope to sponsor one orphan has now, due to generous donations, pledges, and general support from students and community, expanded to covering the expenses for two orphans for an entire year! Thanks for making this project, a first of its kind in Yale MSA history, so successful!

IAW 2007 Update

Islamic Awareness Week was a huge success! We had record turnout and really managed to get the word out about our events -- in fact, you should check the great YDN coverage on the week here, here, and here. Above is the attentive crowd at Branford Master's Tea Friday with Farid Esack.

Also, check out the recording of our first khutba online by brother Yasir Kazi. We will be putting our Juma'a khutbas online each week -- you can download them and even listen to them on your ipod!

Happy Spring Break everyone!
