Eid al Fitr 2011

Please join us for Eid al-Fitr Prayer tomorrow (Tuesday, August 30) @ 8 am at Yale's Reese Stadium (75 Central Avenue; next to Yale Bowl). Rides are available for undergraduates from Phelps Gate at 7:30 am. Please indicate if you need a ride.

Here’s a comprehensive article on “The Fiqh of Eid al-Fitr & Eid al-Adha”.

Here’s a prophetic hadith to inspire some extra devotions as we conclude Ramadan: "Whoever stands up (in worship) in the night preceding the two Eids expecting reward from Allah, his heart will not die when other hearts will die." (Ibn Majah)

May Allah accept all our Qiyam (praying) and Siyam (fasting) this past month, and may Allah forgive all our sins & admit us into His garden. Ameen ya Rabbul-alameen! Eid Mubarak!

Ramadan 2011

Ramadan is expected to begin on August 1, 2011. Although this is before classes officially start, we still have a host of campus Ramadan activities! Starting August 22, we'll have daily Iftars with Halal meat in Battell Chapel (corner of College & Elm streets). Our activities are open to students, staff, and faculty, so please join us!

For those without access to kitchens in the morning, Omer Bajwa has prepared free “Suhoor packets” that will be available daily outside his office (in the Chaplain’s Office) in the Bingham Basement starting August 19.

For those that around campus before pre-orientation programs, please join us as we attend special Iftars on the West Haven Green (from August 17-21) that are organized by the Turkish Cultural Center of Connecticut.

Please contact Omer Bajwa for more information: 203-432-8753. Please also check this page for periodic updates.

“Does Islam Need a Reformation?” with Professor Tariq Ramadan

(Monday, April 18, 8 pm in the Yale Law School Auditorium)

Professor Tariq Ramadan of Oxford University will be joining Yale for a special public lecture open to the Yale community about Islamic revival movements today. With the recent democratization and revolutions in the Middle East, the Muslim world is in the midst of a broader dialogue about what it means to reform Islam.

Tariq Ramadan is a professor of Contemporary Islamic Studies at Oxford University, as well as a visiting professor in many universities around the world. He has contributed substantially to the debate on the issues of Muslims in the West and Islamic revival in the Muslim world. He recently authored a book called Radical Reform: Islamic Ethics and Liberation.
